Predicating the future used to belong to the world of psychics and mystics, but now you don’t need to be Nostradamus to see what the future holds. In fact, scientists are increasingly making bold predications about the future. If some of their forecasts are right then we could be living in a "brave new world". We take a look at 10 bizarre predictions that might just come true.

10. Invisibility cloak

What would you do if you could be invisible for a day?  Well, according to The Telegraph , an invisibility cloak is only a few years away from being created. Robbing banks will get a whole lot easier.

9. Download brain onto a computer

Ray Kurzweil , a leading expert in the field of technology claims that by 2050 computers could be so powerful that we can actually download our brains into a computer – giving us eternal life. There are unconfirmed reports that Paris Hilton has downloaded her brain onto an old floppy disk in preperation.

8. Rise of global machine dictator

British Telecoms futurology department predict that we could be under the global robot dictator as early as 2021. A machine dictator will probably still be better than some of the people in power at the moment...

7. Brain chips

The ministry of defence released a report last year in which they claim that an implantable brain chip will embedded in the brain and allow the state, terrorist organisations and criminals to use people to mobilise flash mobs

By 2035, an implantable "information chip" could be wired directly to the brain. A growing pervasiveness of information communications technology will enable states, terrorists or criminals, to mobilise "flashmobs", challenging security forces to match this potential agility coupled with an ability to concentrate forces quickly in a small area.

6. Genetically engineered teddy bear

Back to the crazy world of the BT Futurology department and they predict that by 2038 the first genetically engineered Teddy Bear could be developed. Not sure if you’ll want to give these teddy bears to your children - unless they've been very bad!

5. Sweet robot loving

A.I expert, David Levy , predicts that by 2050 robots will be so lifelike that we’ll all want to get intimate with robots. Now nerds will have to listen to robot girlfriends telling them to do the dishes.

4. Binary “Deathstar”

Astronomers at the University of Sydney think that the Earth is inline with an unstable star and that it “will emit an “intense gamma ray” which will ultimately lead to mass extinction on Earth. Neat.

3. Aliens Save The World From Disaster

Steven Spielberg was right, not all aliens are bad. Buddist monks in Tibet think that alien superpowers will avert the apocalypse in 2012.

2. Human Race to split into 2 species

Hands up who has read The Time Machine recently? Well, a bunch of scientists must have overdosed on the H.G Wells classic because they think the human race is going to split into two separate species . One class will be the attractive and intelligent ruling elite, while the other will be an underclass of dim-witted goblin-like creatures.

1. Time Travellers

Anyone who’s ever watched Back to the Future will hoping that any time travelling device features the cool Delorean car and a mad professor. Well, Prof Irina Aref'eva and Dr Igor Volovich, mathematical physicists at the Steklov Mathematical Institute in Moscow believe that the Large Hadron Collider, which is the most powerful atom-smasher ever built, may turn out to be the world’s first time machine.

Heheh.. I always enjoy reading things like these but it seems more like a list of the worlds top ten crackpots.. The invisibility wear will be a neat thing but almost utterly useless for someone as heavy footed as me. As for the computers? I think we will be seeing stuff more advanced far sooner than 2050. Moore's law is begging to be shattered as we develop ma*sively faster processors and infinitely smaller memory as each day pa*ses.

You did forget to mention the various predictions for 2012 (other than us being saved from this unknown doom). My favorite was someone suggested that earth was going to be transported into an alternate dimension, maybe the aliens will have a hand in that. ^^

ay dios mio. those are all some awesome predictions. I'm really lookin forward to what future technology holds in store for us. But I also believe that something may be happening in 2012 due to the sudden end of the mayan calender. So I'm hoping that those Monks are right about the alien a*sistance. haha

You missed out on white people being extinct by the 22nd Century because of climate change...

i like it, but there are some things i would like to point out: an implantable chip would most likely come from a computer corporation for storing even more data, and it would most likely use the natural storage capacity of the human brain (calculated at 1-1000 terabytes; http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=525801), not for "flash mobs." and besides, it probably wouldnt be over a wireless signal for that specific reason.

second, after number 7 (brain chips) it was just random bulls**t that he thought would be cool. He provided no evidence that any of those things would happen, just the link to the conspiracy theorists' website.

third, you cant GENETICALLY engineer teddy bears! in order for that to happen, they would have to have genes (and i dont mean levis) to start with.

At least one of these is definitely true to an extent. I am a student at the University of Illinois, and about a month ago an article came out in our newspaper talking about technology on an "invisibility cloak." Our engineers have come up with a sort of cloak that it not for wearing but more so for hiding immobile objects such as security cameras. They've already come up with a preliminary working product. Pretty awesome stuff.

i doubt that some of this will happen...people thought back in the day that we would get way more advanced in the 20th century that we would have flying houses flying cars and everything just crazy
well that didn't happen so i doubt most of this will happen Steven Spielberg is a dumba*s if he thinks aliens actually exist...oh no the apocalypse is coming...i don't really give a s**t if it does...yah everyone will be scared but if a nuke goes off and kills everything then you will die instantly with no pain....if the sun moves closer yes you will burn up but you will be dead instantly...in the Bible God says that he will never destroy the world with water again...he also said next time he destroys it, it will be with fire.... smilies/shocked.gif

I really hope those sexy robots happen before 2050. I'll be nearing 70 and might not be able to do it justice! I'd definitely bang a 'bot. Hehe Bang-a-bot...sounds like a cyber-brothel.

These are interesting ideas and predictions but I am of a more practical mind. I believe that we must leave this soar system. The sooner the better; but how? Here is an idea: maybe by 2100 we will have manuevered an asteroid say, 3miles by 6 miles to the moons orbit and be in poccess of howling it out and using it as a generational ship to the stars. How's that for wild?
