A psychic reading is a modern description of the ancient practice of divination, just as the term ‘psychic reader’ is now more widely used than ‘fortune teller’. But a colourful parade of mystics, seers, mediums, clairvoyants, shamans and human oracles march through thousands of years of human history – and they have been consulted by millions of people including kings, queens, emperors and presidents.
A genuine psychic is someone with extra sensory perception (ESP for short). He or she is able to ‘read’ or sense things most of us are unable to pick up. Abilities such as clairvoyance – the ability to ‘see’ visions and describe people and places, or clairaudience – the ability to ‘hear’ information from paranormal sources, develop differently in psychic individuals, and many specialise in one or two methods in which they excel. In this way they are able to ‘read’ what surrounds you, and what might be approaching – just as tribal shamans are able to sense when visitors are approaching, even though they may be a very long distance away. During a reading, a psychic reader aims to tune in to you, and those closest to you. In this way they hope to help you understand what’s going on and what the likely results will be.
But a psychic reading isn’t just about paranormal powers. It’s about knowledge and skill too. Many readers use tarot cards to guide them, for the dream-like images on the cards have specific meanings, and an experienced reader can interpret these images and connect them to you and your story. The kind of creative intuition needed here is not a psychic ability, but many readers are also clairvoyant and able to add to the information a spread of tarot cards provides by using their inner visions. Playing cards, runes, crystals and a whole dazzling array of tools and methods help them focus on the patterns and potential of your present circumstances and your future. And thanks to their innate sympathy and empathy with human nature, they can also offer reassurance, encouragement, and honest, non-judgmental advice.
Some psychic readings involve contact with spirits, and these are given by people who are called mediums. A medium is someone who is able to contact and channel the spirits of deceased people, and sometimes animals too. They believe in life after death, and seek to bring us proof of survival in spirit form in the world beyond. This is a special kind of reading, but some psychic readers incorporate spirit guidance into other types of reading, such as a tarot reading. Others have a personal spirit guide of their own to help them in their work. When you look at the information provided by psychic readers on a website like this one, you’ll see that some of them are mediums as well as being able to read cards or offer clairvoyant insights. Paranormal abilities come in a wild and wonderful range of skills, so a reading with one person is likely to be quite different from a reading with another. The information they bring you should be more or less the same, although some psychic readers do specialise in areas such as career, love, or spiritual guidance and counselling.
A psychic reading may surprise or even astonish you, but ultimately it should help you connect with your own higher self, and see your path ahead more clearly. It’s an intimate experience that can refresh your spirit and renew your determination to find fulfilment. Approach it with an open mind and heart, and prepare to be fascinated.
