Cosmic Weather: October’s astrology forecast by Jane Lyle

Big, powerful themes and ideas demand our attention this October. Do we want justice, or do we want revenge? To destroy something, or to transform it? We might feel flirtatious, but as the month unfolds we’re knocked off our feet by unruly passion and desire. We’re thinking about looking good, but feeling good turns out to be so much more satisfying. Time to roll with the planetary punches and question our assumptions. 

1st October: Plenty of energy is bouncing around over the next few days. Competitive impulses and quarrelsome people clash, there may be arguments about sport and the law for instance. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius people could be in a particularly feisty mood.

2nd October: We seek balance, but we need fine-tuning and adjustments. People need to feel as if their opinions are being taken seriously. Nobody wants to be invisible.

3rd October: Hasty actions or impulsive words spill out all over the place. Some of us feel reckless, others attract lucky breaks or fortunate events. Legal battles and challenging the rules are irresistible for some.

5th October: Conversations and chance encounters could make us think about coincidences, and how amazing they sometimes are. There’s lots of communication today. Amazing, or otherwise.

6th October: It will be very hard to change anyone’s point of view today. Dig around, do your research, and wait for a while instead.

7th October: Romantic, spiritual, blissed-out vibes give some of us a fluffy pink day. But others are simply confused or easily led astray. A bad day for investments or financial negotiations.

8th October: The Draconid meteor shower is predicted to be spectacular this year. 750 shooting stars an hour are forecast. If you’re in Europe, North Africa, or the Middle East you should be able to enjoy the show. Cloud cover permitting of course.

9th October: Venus, planet of love, art and money, enters mysterious Scorpio today, bringing a shadowy little twist to these objects of desire over the coming weeks. Secretive negotiations and whispering in the dark may be very necessary too as chatty Mercury meets Pluto, Lord of the Underworld.  Careless talk costs lives, or at the very least proves to be toe-curlingly embarrassing.

10th October: Unusual, spontaneous inspirations or meetings bring a frisson of romantic excitement or perhaps money luck to some of us.

12th October: A full Moon rises in Aries, making a smoking hot pattern with fiery Mars in Leo and the Moon’s nodes in Sagittarius. Fire signs, you’re ultra-vibrant today. 13th October: Mercury enters Scorpio.  Other planet patterns suggest passion and eroticism sizzles for some of us, while others must confront the rules and regulations of life. Scorpio, Taurus, Leo and Aquarius want music, entertainment, love and expansion, and they want it now.

16th October: Digging and delving for secrets, protecting information, obsessive thinking and a refusal to give in….all these things are in the air around us today. A wonderful time for researchers, archaeologists, spies and thriller-writers. Comet Elenin passes closest to Earth today. But it will be about 21 million miles away.

17th October: Unrest bubbles under the surface as agreements are broken, or hostile feelings are expressed between individuals or nations. Communication of ideas flourishes, as do discussions about anything and everything. Remember, everyone is entitled to his or her own point of view, even if you know deep in your bones you’re right. It’s annoying, so expect some teeth-grinding and tight jaws.

18th October: It’s hard to escape talk of money and markets right now, and in the days ahead. Change is slow, but it will come. The urge to upend everything is erupting - many people want to see important changes at work, or in society. Tension results in demonstrations, strikes and unusual crimes. This theme continues into 2012.

21st October: Spiritual vibrations and the magic of the sea capture our imaginations.

22nd October: If you’re a Taurean, Virgo, or Capricorn (or have planets or angles in these signs) it’s a great day to get moving towards your dreams and ambitions. Between now and the end of October, you’ve got some serious energy on your side.

23rd October: The Sun enters Scorpio. Happy birthday month to the most intense water sign of all!

24th October: An intuitive approach sometimes works when logic or reason fails. Emotional intelligence rules. The collective desire for change is very strong, there may be strikes, demonstrations, or riots.

25th October: Unlikely alliances can work, even if they surprise us or seem unimaginable at first.

26th October: The new Moon is in Scorpio, a time to plot secret ambitions, or decide to find out more about something or someone. More in the Moon Diary, as usual.

28th October: Jupiter and Pluto meet again, as they did in July, and will do again in March 2012. Forceful, potent energies are around us. Some of us will be focussing on cleaning or transforming toxic situations and conditions – this means anything from our environment to criminal elements wielding power in society. Destruction and corruption are themes that fascinate us. If your own horoscope is activated (planets in Taurus and/or Capricorn) you’ll be concerned with making important changes to your life, and your relationships. Some things must change, be transformed, or be left behind.
