Thursday 3rd November:

What Lies Beneath?

The Jupiter-Pluto square and other stories: November 2016 – August 2017

Pluto has a powerful reputation in astrology. This November, a dynamic new partnership between Pluto and expansive Jupiter begins. It’s part of a bigger picture that colours our own lives, and the lives of everyone around us as we move towards 2017.

This month Pluto has a lot to say to us, as Mercury, the Sun and Venus join Jupiter in triggering Pluto’s symbolic meanings and energy.

So what’s Pluto about?

As the Roman god of the dead, Pluto’s kingdom lay deep beneath the earth. Pluto ruled the underworld. His brother, Jupiter, was king of the gods and ruled over the skies. Pluto and Jupiter have sibling rivalry, but now and again they co-operate too, unleashing great energy.

Sometimes Pluto’s symbolism manifests quite literally, bringing major news of criminals, spies, police operations, hidden plots, buried information, and buried wealth or treasure. And let’s not forget those shadowy plutocrats and oligarchs either.

As co-ruler of Scorpio, along with Mars, Pluto rules the eighth zodiac house of sex, death, money, and resources. This planet’s underworld themes can also manifest psychologically as unconscious motives, or subconscious drives and desires around sex, erotica, death, and money. And there’s often an obsessive, intense quality to Plutonic times. You might say that Pluto writes the perfect thriller.

In astrology, Pluto is associated with transformation. Pluto’s considerable power is focused on eliminating what’s not working, or what stands in the way of rebirth and regeneration as the great cycle of life, death and rebirth unfolds. In this role, Pluto can represent destruction, yet it’s vital to remember that what’s eliminated will eventually make space for the wonders of regeneration and rebirth. However, it’s not a sweet or fluffy process.

Periods of isolation, purges, and breakdown are associated with Pluto’s works, as are phases of great power, wealth, and strength. But before we can reap rewards, says the Lord of the Underworld, the ground must be cleared. We can then get on with digging up what lies beneath, and sorting out what we discover. It can be an intense, slow process – much like an archaeological dig, or a forensic examination of a crime scene. CSI Pluto scrutinises the smallest details in pursuit of the truth.

Pluto in Capricorn highlights security, banking and finance, political power, status, authority and the buried resources of the Earth itself.  These are very potent November themes, expanded by the presence of generous Jupiter, and other planets, aspecting Pluto throughout the month, bringing these themes to our attention.

Pluto entered Capricorn in January 2008 – a year of gargantuan global financial crisis - so we’ve had a while to think about transforming these areas of life. Yet little has been achieved so far.

These themes are part of a larger and more complicated pattern that’s shaping our world’s story now, and on into 2017.

Change can be frightening, but the time has come to work out what can be transformed for the better, and what affects us all, whatever our personal astrology may be. The months ahead will make this challenging cosmic message very clear.

A Cosmic Wrestling Match

When Jupiter squares off with Pluto, there’s a struggle on one level or another. Power can be sent in unhelpful directions during this wrestling match, or be flourished in our faces with much hot air and many frustrating manipulative strategies.

This can manifest as difficulties or arguments about the energy we use, such as oil, coal, and gas. It can also signify challenges in the worlds of politics and leadership, senior management, negotiators and diplomats, groups, partnerships, and alliances, publishing, faith and cultural beliefs.

Eventually, after some dynamic pushing and shoving, much can be achieved.

If you have personal planets or points at 15 – 19 degrees of Capricorn, Aries, Cancer or Libra then Pluto and Jupiter are currently active in your horoscope. An astrologer can tell you more about how this significant period of major change can work out for you personally.

The possibility of important, transformative changes is there for everyone with planets at 15 –19 degrees in any sign, but those with Capricorn, Aries, Cancer or Libran planets may notice it the most.

November’s Pluto aspects are:

Mercury, 15 Scorpio, is sextile Pluto, 15 Capricorn, today.

On Monday 7th November, the Sun will be at 15 Scorpio, sextile Pluto.

Jupiter in Libra reaches the first exact square to Pluto on 24th November, 16 degrees.

On Friday, 25th November, Venus will be conjunct Pluto in Capricorn and square to Jupiter in Libra at 16 degrees of these signs. Powerful emotions indeed!

And it’s worth noting that…..

Jupiter squares Pluto exactly again on 30th March, 2017 (19 degrees), and on 4th August, 2017 (17 degrees).

Saturday 5th November:

Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night in the UK celebrates the arrest and death of Guy Fawkes, a 17th century political and religious activist who tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament with gunpowder. It didn’t go too well for him.

However, since Bonfire Night falls close to Halloween at a turning point of the year – half way between the September equinox and the December solstice – our flaming celebrations may have much older, pagan origins that are buried deeply somewhere in our collective ancestral memories. We can’t pin it down easily. But bone-fires were (and are) part of many seasonal rituals throughout the year – Beltane in May, Midsummer Night, and so on.

Ancient calendars relied for their timing on the annual journey of the Sun, and the monthly cycle of the Moon. In those far-off times human lives were inextricably linked with the seasons, their experience of these changes being far more raw and vital than our connection today. Yet deep inside, we’re no different – and we’re still mesmerised by fire.

A hot planetary aspect this weekend crackles, smoulders and surprises.

It’s a weekend for unexpected love and fiery attraction; quirky, original fashions, and unconventional women. There could also be news about online cash transactions, innovative payment methods, or internet trading.

It could be a good weekend to snag an unusual bargain, an eccentric admirer, or a hunk of burning love online.

The aspect is: Venus 21 Sagittarius trine Uranus 21 Aries.

Monday 7th November:

Some very powerful energy is available early this week. For more about this potent November theme please do have a look at 3rd November in this Cosmic Weather blog.

If you have planets or points at around 15 degrees of Scorpio, Pisces, Cancer, or Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn in your personal horoscope, you have an opportunity to get things moving, make a lasting impression, or do some impressive research.

The aspect is: Sun 15 Scorpio sextile Pluto 15 Capricorn.

Tuesday 8th November:

At Last! The USA Presidential Election

The Moon is in Aquarius today. In the USA’s national horoscope, 4th July, 1776, the Moon is also in Aquarius. This lunar return emphasises ‘the people’, unsurprising for such a hugely important and significant election.

Communications, information, transport, social media, information leaks, and technology may be disrupted, disruptive or unreliable now.

Electric rebel Uranus, plus disruptive dwarf planet Eris in Aries, continue to challenge the US Mercury (24 Cancer) – meaning media, communications and movement are both shaken and stirred. This pair, representing rebels and outsiders, also shake up the powers-that-be by galvanising intense Pluto – 27 Capricorn in the US founding horoscope. Pluto signifies power of every kind, from the power of the earth and nature itself all the way through to the bankers, military, police, and secret service organisations.

It looks like a chaotic time for the USA, with lively debates and relentless analysis continuing on well into 2017.

Whoever wins this extraordinary election will need incredible crisis management skills, for the upsets and even personal attacks, rumours and scandals will just keep on coming.

The holiday season, New Year’s Eve, and early January are also looking like an exceptionally sensitive time for the USA. At that time, Mars in Pisces activates both September 2016’s eclipses in Virgo and Pisces.

We can expect to witness upheavals, and perhaps some very sudden, possibly shocking, events around the New Year as the USA’s natal Uranus in Gemini is unsettled by Mars in Pisces. Events will connect to 1st September’s big Virgo eclipse, and to the Pisces solar eclipse coming up on 26th February, 2017.

You can read more about 1st September’s important solar eclipse in Virgo in the Moon Diary for that date if you like.

Today’s aspects are:

Jupiter 13 Libra approaching the square to Pluto, 15 Capricorn.

Mercury 23 Scorpio quincunx Uranus 22 Aries.

Wednesday 9th November:

Mars enters Aquarius

At its best, Mars in airy Aquarius acts in humanitarian ways and fights to help those who are suffering as a result of war, famine, or natural disasters. Inventive energy can be channelled into science and technology, or used to experiment with new sports, or new sporting techniques and equipment.

Mars in Aquarius signifies high levels of nervous tension, with electromagnetic energy pinging around in both mind and body. A strong need for independence or freedom can mean that intimate relationships are unconventional, at a distance, or out of the ordinary in some way.

Mars in Aquarius enjoys sexual experimentation, or may choose periods of celibacy as a route to freedom. In a personal horoscope, other planets and their aspects will reveal how strongly these Aquarian themes will show themselves in an individual’s personality.

Mars rules Aries, Uranus rules Aquarius – each planet is now in each other’s home sign.

This is known as mutual reception, and means that both planets and their attributes are boosted. So we can expect some particularly inventive, unconventional, and buzzy times between now and 19th December.

Friday 11th November – Monday 14th November:

Big Lunar Alert!

We’re now feeling (and seeing) the forthcoming effects of the full supermoon in Taurus, which  illuminates our night skies on Monday, 14th November. Take it easy, and remember that dramatic emotions are on the rise at such times as situations reach a full Moon peak.

It’s probably not the best moment to make a serious decision, better to wait and see how you feel once the lunar tides have receded. This full Moon may highlight unsettling feelings about money, land and security.

Wild weather, and extra-high tides accompany supermoons, along with a vivid array of heightened human emotions. There’s some evidence that earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur more frequently in the period around a supermoon too – several days beforehand, and a few days after the actual date are the ones to watch. It activates numerous national horoscopes, including several for the UK.

There’s more in the Moon Diary.

Saturday 12th November:

Venus enters Capricorn today.

Here in Capricorn, the goddess of love, art and cash is most concerned with status and security. Venus in Capricorn thinks ‘if you like it, put a ring on it.’

Venus in Capricorn is loyal and prizes fidelity, although there could be a very low-key, shy way of showing partners how much they are loved and valued. Venus here in an earth sign can be sensuous and sexy, once the relationship seems secure.

This is a risk-averse Venus when it comes to money. However, Venus in Capricorn does love quality, may spend lavishly on high-end fashion and other status-driven items, and can sometimes look very elegant and glamorous indeed – whether manifesting through a male or female horoscope.

You may have Venus in Capricorn if your Sun sign is Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius or Pisces, depending on your year of birth.

Venus travels through Capricorn until 7th December.

Mercury enters Sagittarius this Saturday too.

In flexible, fiery Sagittarius the communications planet is philosophical, funny, tactless and honest.

Mercury in Sagittarius favours sport, travel, gambling, socialising, pets, and comedy – so do make the very most of it between now and December 2nd. After that, Mercury will be in serious Capricorn for about two months, where it will turn retrograde just in time for some annoying travel snarl-ups and misunderstandings during the holidays.

Planning ahead? Here’s the upcoming Mercury retrograde information:

2016’s final Mercury retrograde begins on 19th December.

Mercury turns direct on 8th January, having gone back as far as Sagittarius again.

From 12th January, Mercury travels on through Capricorn until 7th February, 2017.

This long Mercury in Capricorn moment will favour addressing budgets, finances, goals and foundations – and reviewing everything connected with such matters.

But Mercury in Sagittarius is definitely a bit more in tune with the festive season.

Monday 14th November:

Money, Money, Money: The Full Moon rises at 22 degrees of Taurus, the Bull

This is another of autumn’s dramatic supermoons, and it’s the closest to Earth so far this century. There’s more about supermoons in the entry for 11th November – their unruly effects kick in early, and continue for several days afterwards.

A full Moon in Taurus brings an emphasis on property, possessions, and the Earth itself. Financial security, what we value, and our resources are all in the lunar spotlight.

It’s a time to take extra care of your things, and what you treasure.

There’s more in the Moon Diary.

Friday 18th - Saturday 19th November:

It’s a bewitching weekend for parties, social events, and entertainment. There’s a heady mix of glamour, magic, and mysticism around – perfect for creating beautiful disguises, listening to music, or watching a magician in a hall of mirrors.

Neptune’s concerns are emphasised out in the world – news about oil, gas, drugs, medicine, the sea, and the film industry can catch our attention now.

The aspects are: Venus 8 Capricorn sextile Neptune 9 Pisces.
Venus trine Moon’s nodes in Virgo.

Monday 21st November:

Sun enters Sagittarius and we say happy birthday month to all those amazing Archers and Centaurs out there.

You’re all experiencing a long visit from sober Saturn, which means some areas of your life have seemed like an endless diet during 2015 and 2016. Of course, this will have great benefits eventually. Saturn leaves Sagittarius in December 2017.

Fortunately, some sparkly treats are on the way, and about time too! Your astrological year begins now, promising some welcome inspiration and spontaneity in the weeks and months ahead.

Tuesday 22nd – Wednesday 23rd November:

Upbeat thinking and communications meet cautious practicality over the next two days. Constructive talks can achieve results, just as long as the pessimists don’t squash the optimists, and the positive thinkers don’t sneer at those who factor in realistic limitations.

Travel industries, transport, sport, gambling, ideals and faith are highlighted by this Sagittarian energy.

The aspects are:

Mercury in Sagittarius sextile Jupiter in Libra, 15 degrees

Mercury conjunct Saturn, 17 Sagittarius

Thursday 24th November:

Dynamic Times - Jupiter in Libra squares Pluto in Capricorn, at 16 degrees

This planetary pairing represents an important theme now, and during 2017. I’ve written about it in the blog for 3rd November, where you can read more about it if you wish. Basically, it’s about power, politics, money and transformation.

Organisations and nations have horoscopes too. So this important aspect not only brings things to our own attention, but also energises horoscopes in the world around us.

Jupiter, ruler of Sagittarius and Pisces (with Neptune), has strong, symbolic connections with sport, for example. There’s been much upheaval in the world of sport in recent times, so there are many organisations’ horoscopes to choose from. For now, I’ve chosen football.

Jupiter, Pluto, and the Premier League

In the horoscope for football’s powerful Premier League, 20th February 1992, Uranus is found at 16 Capricorn, alongside Neptune at 17-18 Capricorn. Pluto, with its message of transformation, is now activating this horoscope, and has been all year. Things, it would seem, have been going on beneath the surface, which can’t be much of a surprise to anyone.

Sporty Jupiter in Libra, with its message of fairness and equality, is now triggering the Premier League’s horoscope. Perhaps there’s more news about fair, affordable ticket prices for the fans?

Stories about football and gambling may also surface in the next few months – Jupiter is optimistic, and tends to enjoy taking risks. Certainly, the planets are dropping huge hints that it’s time for some vital changes in how the phenomenally successful Premier League operates.

It will be interesting to see what develops between now, early January, and late February when a solar eclipse in Pisces vitalises the Premier League’s own natal Mercury. This signifies news about fresh developments, and possibly discussions about something that’s been ‘eclipsed’, buried, or covered up.

Meanwhile, Jupiter and Pluto, plus Venus today and tomorrow, could bring Premier League news about money, power, the law, and perhaps some secrets too.

The aspect is: Venus conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, square Jupiter in Libra, 16 degrees. It is exact on 25th November.

Tuesday 29th November:

Dream Catcher: New Moon rises at 7-8 degrees Sagittarius, the Centaur

Our November new Moon rises in the optimistic, cheerful sign of Sagittarius. It favours positive thinking, friendship, and polishing up our dreams and ideals.

Not everything we hear now is reliable – be cautious about new friends or lovers, and ask questions about any drugs or medicine you are prescribed this month.

This is yet another meaningful Moon for the USA, UK, Russia, and Ukraine – amongst other locations.

There’s more in the Moon Diary.

The aspects are:

The new Moon in Sagittarius is square to the Moon’s Nodes at 7 degrees Virgo and Pisces.  The new Moon squares Neptune at 9 Pisces.

November ends with a buzz of innovative, electric possibilities. We may get sudden glimpses of beauty, or experience inspiration after a period of struggle. Financially, the money markets could be temporarily unstable or surprising in some way.

The aspect is: Venus 20 Capricorn squares Uranus 21 Aries.
