The planetary cycles of Saturn, Jupiter and Uranus signify specific key phases in our lives, at around thirty, forty and fifty. And at thirty we have to deal with the influence of the midwife-like Saturn, at forty the radical gate-crasher, Uranus, and at fifty, the crusading knight in shining armour, Jupiter.
At around the age of thirty, Saturn has looped once around your zodiac chart to return to the place it was when you were born, and feels as if you're being poked with a very large stick. This great celestial authority nudges you to get on in life and doing all those things you really want to do. But it's a bit like being back at school, someone in authority is peeping over your shoulder and reminding you not to cheat. Now you're drawn into trying
to establish your identity and wondering who you really are.
You can wreck relationships, then decide you want security after all. Have a great desire to procreate and goo-goo at babies, or involve yourself with the wrong kind of partner to prove to friends or family that you can make your own choices.
Opportunities come your way, you feel the urge to mature, or breed. Career or babies? Success or fulfilment, or both? Saturn's influence says grow up, in the nicest possible way. And a bit like a stern but competent midwife when you've been through twenty hours of labour hurling abuse and praying for an epidural, Saturn comes along and says, 'push! you can do it! You're fully dilated, baby's coming!" Saturn won't let you take the easy way out either.
The energy of Saturn reminds you, quite matter-of-factly, that you can get through this incredibly painful process of creating something, whether it's a child, a new direction or a sense of self-esteem, just by virtue of being you.
Saturn reminds you that you're not alone. That all women have to face their creative dilemma too. Thirty is about knuckling down and structuring your life so that you can begin to be yourself. By the time you're about thirty- two, our midwifely Saturn praises you just like after you've given birth: “cup of tea dear? You did it without any help, didn't you? Clever girl!”. This is the time to take a deep breath and know you've achieved something wonderful, and you did it all alone. Saturn's influence forces us to work hard to be the best of ourselves.
