A new Moon begins the Chinese New Year, giving us all a fresh starting point this week. By the end of the week we’re approaching the run up to the midway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox.

It’s a useful time to review thoughts and plans, and see where we’re heading. This year, that point falls on 4th February. The pagan fire festival of Imbolc coincides with this day, and is traditionally celebrated on February 2nd. Either way, it’s all about renewal and planting seeds - time to prepare.

Monday 23rd January: New Moon in Aquarius.  Time for something fresh and new.  If today’s your birthday, it’s a special year for you. There’s more about this new Moon in the Moon Diary. Medieval tradition named this the Wolf Moon.
Today is Chinese New Year. 2012 is the Year of the Water Dragon. Feisty, creative and passionate energies flow from this regal, mythical creature. The mystical dragon guards the Gates of Heaven, and stirs the waters of the world. A Wolf Moon and the Year of the Dragon, neither a day, nor a year, for cowards it seems.

Tuesday 24th January: Mars turns retrograde in Virgo today. This continues until 14th April.  Traditionally, this is a dodgy time to buy a new car or appliances for your home. Machines and gadgets could be unreliable.

Friday 27th January: Mercury enters Aquarius. There’s an argumentative atmosphere that’s been brewing up since last week. Tension is released by caring for others, and looking after ourselves too.

Saturday 28th January: Inventive, unusual thoughts are welcome today - along with unexpected visitors. Even short trips may bring surprises.

Sunday 29th January:  Religious leaders court political power, and expansive plans need to be discussed out there in the world, and at home too.
