Week beginning Monday 2nd January 2012

A brand-new year begins. Will 2012 be the year of the apocalypse? Some people are expecting the end of the world - but it might be more accurate to say that we’re beginning a powerful transition and something new is being born. It will take time, effort, and struggle - as big changes always do.

The main planetary theme is a face-off between inventive, revolutionary impulses and established power - a theme we’ve already seen developing in recent years. Uranus squares Pluto this year at 7 to 8 degrees of Aries and Capricorn. If you have planets at those degrees in Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn you’ll be very much part of the action.

We will, as the Chinese curse says, be living in interesting times. There’s no sugar-coating it, 2012 is going to be tough, but by now we have had plenty of practise. Cherish love and joy.

Monday 2nd January: Making dreams come true is what we want, but we’re in the middle of a push-me-pull-you world right now, where past extravagance and expansive behaviour catches up with the forces of law and order (your credit card bill perhaps?).  Gossip and scandal about sport and religion could capture our attention this January.

Wednesday 4th January: Idealistic romantics seek bliss and mental chemistry. Practical types challenge their visions. If you’re an Aquarian, Capricorn or Taurean - find a way to compromise if possible. Better than burying your head in the sand anyway.

Thursday 5th January: Sudden news encourages action.

Friday 6th January: There’s certainly a lot to talk about, but expect discussions at home or work to take days, not hours.

Saturday 7th January: And more talk is the order of the day. Love involves adjustments and empathy, especially if you’re an Aquarian or Virgo person. Social networking is in the spotlight - just how much do you want the world to know about you exactly?

Sunday 8th January: Mercury enters Capricorn. It meets expansive Jupiter and eccentric Uranus today, there could be interesting twists to our ideas, and sudden changes of plan. Sporting fixtures promise some surprises too. An emotional full Moon is building up tonight.
