Jupiter, Uranus and You

A Perfect Storm

Astrology is all about patterns, and trying to figure out what they might mean. And sometimes patterns come along that seem especially significant.  This summer we’ll experience just such a pattern, a particular planetary alignment that hasn’t happened since 1927 - Jupiter aligning with Uranus at 0 degrees of Aries.  It promises new beginnings, expansive creative innovation, and exciting scientific and technological breakthroughs. It’s about how each and every one of us, as individuals, connects with the mass of humanity - and about realising that we’re all part of something much bigger than ourselves, we’re part of the universe itself.
Jupiter aligns with Uranus every fourteen years. It’s a connection associated with radiation, computer technology, radio waves, flight technology and quantum theory. A focus on human rights, civil unrest and even revolution is also connected with this pattern.  But what’s special in 2010 is that Uranus has taken since 1927 to travel through the twelve signs of the zodiac. Now this revolutionary, electrifying planet arrives back at the start again - and that’s Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, and the sign of beginnings. Jupiter in Aries adds an expansive energy that makes this a rather remarkable event.
1927 and 1928 were pretty amazing years - the first long-distance demonstration of television; the first transatlantic phone call from New York to London; the first solo transatlantic flight from New York to Paris; and the sensation that was the first talking movie, ‘The Jazz Singer’ all happened in 1927.  If you understand theoretical physics, then you’ll know how important Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle is, formulated in 1927. (And you are, quite possibly, a genius). Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin the following year. Imagine a world without antibiotics……Now, obviously, all these events didn’t just happen overnight.  Much had gone on behind the scenes beforehand. But they made their appearance upon the world stage as Jupiter and Uranus both met in Aries, as they are doing for the first time since 1927 on 8th June, 2010. These planets remain closely connected until April 2011.
The darker side of this pattern sometimes expresses itself in wild weather and natural catastrophes. There are huge numbers of earthquakes every year, some so tiny or so remote nobody notices. But every so often a memorable earthquake erupts, bringing breakthroughs of a more disturbing kind. In 1927 these occurred in Yugoslavia, Japan, Palestine, and Xining, China. There were also dramatic floods, and a huge tornado in America, plus a hurricane hit Canada. In January 1928 a tidal wave rolled up the River Thames in London, filling the Tower of London’s ancient moat with water and drowning fourteen people - an unlikely and surprising event indeed. Our planet may well surprise us this year, and not in a good way.
What might all this mean for you personally? 0 degrees of Aries appears in everyone’s birthchart of course, but if you have planets there (or around 0 Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn) this alignment is likely to be more important. If you don’t know or understand your chart, consult an astrologer to find out more. But this rare cosmic event is one that offers all of us an opportunity to connect with the collective, to feel as if we are part of something meaningful, to break with routine thinking and expand our imaginations. If you long to make a new beginning in some area of your life, then this is the year when you can finally seize the day, and just do it.
